Today is the day we head for Isla Grande and our Eco-Hotel Las Palmares. Jane has been sick the past few days and we were worried that she would not make the trip to the island without a serious accident. Charlie came to her rescue by finding a pharmacy open in the morning and getting her some immodium pills and a saline solution to drink. We knew the boat to the island would be crowded so we left our suitcases at the hostal. We put a few clothes in our backpacks and carried our snorkeling gear and water in a bag. Within a half hour of taking the pills Jane was beginning to feel better.
We made it to the boat launch area and were one of many waiting to be taken out to the islands. Charlie got us signed up for a boat and finally we made it out to sea. The ocean wasn't to rough because it was morning. Everyone wore life jackets.
It took almost an hour to get to Playa Blanca where half of the people got off. We headed back out to sea and at the next island we were the only ones to get off. The rest of the people were going to another island to visit the Oceanarium, an aquarium in the sea.
A local was standing at the end of the dock and led us down the path to Ana Rosa's place.
We were greeted by Ana with a glass of fresh juice and were told lunch would be ready in an hour. We were given a tour of the facilities. The cabanas are spread around the property and pretty private. We share a bathroom with everyone and use a bucket that we fill with water for flushing the toilet and another bucket of water from a different cistern is used for showering. The shower is nice and you use water from the bucket and a coconut shell for pouring the water over your body.
At lunch we met the other people staying here. There were two couples with children from Bogota and a couple from Chile. They conversed in English, Spanish and French, including the children. The meal was fresh, fried fish, coconut rice, salad and fried plantain and fresh juice. A good meal.
After lunch we took a siesta and Jane slept for a couple of hours. Later, Jane was on the up swing so we took a walk around part of the island. There are no roads on the island, no cars or any kind of vechicle except bicycles. The island is covered with paths which are used by the people to walk or bike from place to place.
We returned in time for supper. We ate and talked with the other guests. We went to bed early.
